A police force has referred itself to a watchdog over the death of an 18-year-old man.

James Corlett, from Swadlincote in Derbyshire, was reported missing after he did not return home following a night out in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, on 29 October.
An inquiry was launched by Derbyshire Police, before on Saturday it was transferred to Leicestershire Police, which confirmed a body had been found in Ashby-de-la-Zouch and that Corlett’s death was being “treated as unexplained”.
Leicestershire Police said on Monday that the death was not being treated as suspicious, and has since confirmed it had made a “mandatory referral” to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
On Thursday, a spokesperson for the IOPC added: “We have received a mandatory referral from Leicestershire Police in relation to this matter, and we will now carry out an assessment to decide what further action, if any, is required by us.”
